BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Homicide investigators have now identified the 13-year-old girl found dead early this morning in Burnaby.

Police say they were called at 11:30 p.m. yesterday following a report the teen was missing. She was last seen at home at 1 p.m. and last made contact over phone around 5 p.m.

The girl’s body was found at 1:10 a.m. in Central Park in Burnaby, and investigators are treating her death as a homicide.

The 13-year-old’s body was located in brush in the south east part of the park.

The risk to the public is unknown at this time, but people are being asked to exercise caution.

Forensic investigators and police K-9 teams have been combing through sections of the park, and officers at the scene say yellow tape as been up since before 9 this morning.

One man NEWS 1130 spoke to, who was among a group of people playing tennis, says the police tape was already up when he arrived around that time. He says a movie or show was filming in a different section of the park last night, but the group says they’ve always felt safe in the park even at night.
