Richmond shooting victim known to police

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) – Mounties in Richmond say the victim of a shooting on Waterton Drive is known to police.

The RCMP says officers received calls of possible shots fired in the area of Waterton Drive near Steveston Highway and No. 3 Road just before six Tuesday morning.

When they arrived, police found a 44-year-old man with gunshot wounds inside a home in that neighbourhood. He was taken to hospital and is currently in stable condition.

Mounties say the victim does not appear to be linked to any gangs or organized crime.

“Based on information gathered through our investigation it appears the shooting was targeted,” says Acting Corporal Adriana Peralta. “We want to reassure the public that this was not a random act and that the risk to their personal safety is low.”

Investigators have not yet determined an exact motive, and are looking into whether a black hatchback style Sedan which was seen leaving the area is connected to the shooting.

Neighbours say this is the first time something like this has happen in the area for decades.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Richmond RCMP at 604.278.1212 or CrimeStoppers at 1.800.222.8477 (TIPS).
