Man charged over double killing in Langley

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – A man has been charged over the shooting deaths of another man and a woman in Langley last week.

34-year-old Brandy Petrie, from Burnaby, and 20-year-old Avery Levely-Flescher, from Surrey, were found with gunshot wounds inside a car on 232 Street and 64 Avenue early on September 1st. Petrie was pronounced dead at the scene, and Levely-Flescher died of his injuries after being transported to hospital.

A male suspect was taken into custody near the scene of the shootings. 21-year-old Travis MacPhail, from Langley, has now been charged with two counts of second-degree murder, as well as a firearms offence, uttering threats and aggravated sexual assault.

He is appearing in court this afternoon.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation team says the evidence does not suggest a random attack, and there’s no information to link this to any other violence in the Lower Mainland.

Family members say they’re raising money for Avery Levely-Flescher’s mother with a GoFundMe page.

Chilliwack victim identified

Meanwhile, the victim of a deadly shooting in Chilliwack early on Sunday morning has been identified as 35-year-old Jose Martin Torres.  He was known to police.

IHIT investigators believe the attack was targeted, but no arrests have been made. They’re not linking the shooting with any other Lower Mainland shootings.
