Man stabbed to death in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) –  A man is dead after he was stabbed in East Vancouver last night.

Police were called to Commercial Drive near East 1st Avenue around 9:30 p.m.

“Some passerbys — some pedestrians — noticed the man laying there and thought he was in medical distress. They started doing some First Aid while first responders were called. He was rushed to hospital, where he later died of his injuries,” explains Constable Jason Doucette.

The victim is believed to have been in his 30s, but he has not yet been identified.

There have been no arrests, and police say it appears this was a targeted attack.

“We’re working to piece together exactly what happened,” says Doucette. “That’s why we’re asking witnesses to come forward. We don’t know if the stabbing occurred in the street, if it occurred nearby and this is where the person ended up. But we are asking anybody who may have seen anything to give us a call.”

If you have any information that could help in the investigation, you can call the VPD at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

This is Vancouver’s 16th homicide of the year.
