Holiday shopping kicking into high gear with Black Friday sales

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – We may not be carving turkeys or baking pies like our southern neighbours today, but there is one American Thanksgiving tradition Canadians have embraced: shopping!

The shopping atmosphere is certainly not as intense as what happens stateside, where many videos have shown people fighting and storming through the doors when stores open. But it’s still going to be busy, with malls across the country preparing for one of the biggest Black Fridays yet.

Google searches for Black Friday have now surpassed Boxing Day on this side of the border.

Retail experts say that since many of us have to work tomorrow, some people will instead sit by the computer at midnight, waiting for retailers to post even deeper discounts. Some have started their sales already, with big deals on TVs, toys, and tech items.

You can also find deals on travel — Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing and Flight Centre Canada all have big sales on.

Ebay Canada is also offering price matching on Black Friday.
