Victim in Kerrisdale shooting identified

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The victim in yesterday’s daytime shooting in Vancouver’s West Side has been identified as 32-year-old Kaminder Rai.

Vancouver police were called to the area of Marguerite Street and West 49th Avenue just before 1 p.m. for reports of shots being fired. Officers found Rai suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound when they arrived. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, but died from his injuries just hours later.

“This is Vancouver’s sixth homicide of 2018 and it’s only the middle of February,” says Constable Jason Doucette.

Investigators have determined the shooting was targeted, but no arrests have been made.

“Crime does tend to fluctuate throughout the year, but it’s concerning any time we have a homicide in Vancouver — targeted or not,” Doucette says in a release. “We’re continuing to work with our partners throughout the region to solve these crimes and prevent future violence.”

Police will be canvassing the area as well as speaking with potential witnesses.

You’re asked to call the VPD at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if you have any information.
