Abbotsford PD launches ‘Buy and Sell Exchange Zone’ for online purchases

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – If buying and selling on sites like Craigslist and Kijiji makes you feel like you’re doing a drug deal, worry no more.

The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) hopes to make online purchases less stressful and safer with an official Buy and Sell Exchange Zone right outside its headquarters at 2838 Justice Way.

“We thought let’s have a designated area where people can be safe, you can pull up, you know that it’s covered by video surveillance and you know you’re right near the front door of the police department if you need to go in,” APD Sgt Judy Bird said.

The new zone comes with clear signage, two designated parking spots right outside the office doors and 24/7 video surveillance.

While according to Bird, Abbotsford police do not get many complaints about online sales gone sour, police wanted to be proactive about the ever-growing market.

While police can interfere once a crime has been committed, they cannot assist in civil transactions.

The Vancouver Police Department has previously said people can use its lobby or front step to complete their sales.
