Alberta premier says Kinder Morgan talks happening at a ‘furious pace’

EDMONTON (NEWS 1130) – As an important deadline looms on the fate of the Trans Mountain pipeline, Alberta’s premier says discussions between her government, the feds and Kinder Morgan are happening at a ‘furious pace’.

Rachel Notley spoke to the Sherwood Park and District Chamber of Commerce about the importance of getting the pipeline built.

Kinder Morgan has set a deadline of May 31st to decide whether or not to continue with the pipeline. As Alberta and the Trudeau governments try to push the project forward, BC continues to force delays.

Notley says the furious pace means getting daily reports from briefings, as the sides engage on making sure the project goes ahead.

“We’re getting well into a very thoughtful and well-informed understanding of the options that are available to us and when we have something specific — a specific agreement — to announce, that’s when we’ll do that.”

“We have very senior officials that are engaging in [talks] at this point…We get daily reports on how that’s going.”

Notley reiterated in her speech that nothing is off the table, adding they could still bring back the BC wine ban, strategically control the flow of oil and gas, and become an investor.

Saskatchewan has recently introduced legislation similar to the bill in Alberta that could restrict the flow of oil and gas to BC.

BC Attorney General David Eby has called both of those moves by Alberta and Saskatchewan unconstitutional.
