Early morning fire rips through Chilliwack homes

CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) – Multiple families are dealing with the loss of their homes after a fire tore through houses on a quiet stretch of road in Chilliwack early this morning.

Around 3 a.m., fire crews rushed to the scene of the inferno on Safflower Crescent. When they got to the quiet street, the crews from five different fire halls found two homes, two garages, and a carriage home involved.

The people who live in those homes were there at the time of the fire, but luckily everyone made it out alive.

Bill lives in the area. He says he was woken up by a loud boom.

“[It was] almost like Armageddon, very high flames. Lots of smoke,” he tells NEWS 1130.

The Chilliwack Fire Department says the homes and garages involved suffered major damage damage, and nearly a dozen other properties nearby were damaged due to the radiant heat from the blaze. The siding on some nearby places were melted and singed.

Firefighters were, however, able to prevent the fire from actually jumping to any other homes.

There’s no word on what sparked the fire yet as it is early in the investigation.
