Richard Dettman recognized with RTDNA Lifetime Achievement Award

By News Staff

“From the business centre, I’m Richard Dettman.”

Longtime CityNews Vancouver listeners will read the above quote and hear the distinctively smooth, calm, and dependable voice of Richard Dettman.

Richard, who retired in November 2020, is now being recognized by RTDNA Canada with a Regional Lifetime Achievement Award.

With a career that has spanned more than 45 years in the broadcast industry, Richard made a mark on radio audiences in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley as one of the most trusted names in business journalism.

While he may be best known to many people in Vancouver as the former business editor at CityNews Vancouver (when we were known as NEWS 1130), Richard also worked at CKO, CJOR, CKVU-TV, and CFVR Abbotsford. He’s worn many hats, including anchor, news director, talk show host, and editorialist.

With his wealth of knowledge and calm demeanor, Richard was a leader in coverage of the financial crisis in 2008. In the months leading up to his retirement, he kept listeners informed of the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
